Police in Richmond have released video of a getaway vehicle they believe was used in a kidnapping reported on Friday night.

At about 10:10 p.m., Richmond RCMP were called to the parking lot of the Bamboo Grove Restaurant at 6920 No. 3 Road. A witness told police two men had forced another man into a pickup truck after he left the restaurant.

Investigators have since reviewed surveillance video and gotten images of the pickup — originally reported as a Ford F-150 but now confirmed to be a grey 2013 Dodge Ram 1500.

“The truck is described as having a sunroof, mud flaps and a triple ball hitch,” said RCMP Cpl. Frank Bryson in an update on the investigation released on Sunday. The truck is believed to have been displaying a B.C. licence plate RF5 41V.

Two grainy photos of the pickup were also released. Another vehicle involved in the incident, a Volkswagen Jetta, has been seized.

“Given the number of onlookers and vehicles present in the parking lot at the time of the incident, investigators are hoping to speak with additional witnesses who were in the area and may have information,” said Bryson.

Police are also looking for the owners of a Tesla parked nearby who might have captured video using its Sentry Mode security system.

Anyone who sees the Dodge pickup truck is asked to call 911 immediately. Police are warning the public not to approach the truck for their own safety.

Those who saw the alleged kidnapping or have dashcam or security video from around that time are asked to call Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212.
