The North Carolina Tar Heels continue to add to their roster for the 2026-27 college basketball season, and on Monday, they received some good news.
Former Northwestern center Cade Bennerman officially committed to the program, he told Joe Tipton of On3. It’s the latest addition for Michael Malone out of the transfer portal and comes at a big position of need.

With Henri Veesaar opting to go to the NBA and James Brown transferring, UNC needs not only a starting center but more depth as well. Bennerman can provide that depth right away.
The 7-foot and 205-pound center was ranked as the No. 29 player at his position in the transfer portal. He redshirted last season at Northwestern, not appearing in a game. He does have four years of eligibility remaining.
Bennerman is an athletic center with a 7-foot-5 wingspan. He has a lot of upside but will still need some time to develop at the college level.
