Patrick Mahomes has made his return to the field in the 2026 season and led his team to a dominant victory. The quarterback started and produced a great performance as the Kansas City Chiefs recorded a huge 31-10 victory in their opening game of the season against the Denver Broncos.
It was also a special moment for Mahomes, who was out for a long time due to an injury sustained last season. A clip of him talking about his injury has become viral.

Mahomes was doubtful to start and play the opening game, but recovered in time. He missed the entire offseason training period for the Chiefs, after tearing the ACL and LCL in his left knee during a December 2025 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. He underwent surgery the following day and spent the offseason rehabilitating.

In his first appearance since the injury against the Broncos, Mahomes completed 15 out of 27 attempts for 184 passing yards, two touchdowns, an interception and also recorded a rushing touchdown. He shared a special moment with his wife after the game.

After the final whistle, Yahoo Sports reporter Jori Epstein recorded a brief conversation between Mahomes and Chiefs co-owner Tavia Hunt. The two met after the game was over and shared a quick hug. Hunt asked him about his knee after missing so much time due to injury. In reply, the quarterback is heard saying, “I’m good. Glad to be back out there.” The video of their interaction has since gone viral on social media, with fans talking about it.
