Two people were rescued from the shore of a remote lake west of Whistler early Tuesday morning after a plane crash.

According to Canadian Armed Forces spokesman second lieutenant Christopher Hofing, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Victoria was notified at 11 p.m. on Monday that a Cessna 172 was overdue in the Squamish area.

“JRCC Victoria immediately tasked a CH-149 Cormorant helicopter and a CC-295 Kingfisher aircraft from 19 Wing Comox to search the aircraft’s last known position and planned route west of Whistler,” Hofing said.

“During the search, at approximately 2 a.m. on July 21, 2026, the occupants were located at Seagram Lake, where it is assumed the aircraft went into the water.

“The two persons were extracted aboard the CH-149 Cormorant helicopter and transported to Vancouver International Airport and transferred to Emergency Health Services. The search and rescue response has now concluded.”
