Watch: ‘Twin Peaks’ Star Lara Flynn Boyle Makes Rare Outing in Los Angeles
Lara Flynn Boyle is having a damn fine day in L.A.
The Twin Peaks alum made a rare public appearance—her first in almost a year—on May 17, enjoying a casual day in Los Angeles with her dog Shrimp. During the walk, Lara donned white pants and blue sweater with “Irish” written across the front as she smoked a cigarette.
And though the Emmy nominee, who didn’t join her former costars in David Lynch’s star-studded Twin Peaks: The Return in 2017, has largely remained out of the public eye, she has not formally retired from acting. Instead, she simply made the decision to work less after since marrying real estate investor Donald Ray Thomas in 2006,
“I never wanted to bow out,” Lara shared with People in 2024. “Any moment I was feeling down or sorry for myself, I made sure I did not complain.”
Still, she never wanted to play into the idea that she’s experiencing a comeback whenever she does work on a new project, like her last film, 2023’s Mother Couch.
“You don’t want an article to read, ‘Boyle’s Second Chance’ or ‘Look Who’s Back,’” she told the outlet. “I’m right here.”
And much of her desire to stay out of the spotlight had to do with the COVID-19 pandemic as well as her choice to prioritize time with her husband, with the two splitting their time between their homes in Texas and Los Angeles.

“I have a lovely marriage,” she shared, adding that she and Thomas met at a party two decades ago after her 2004 breakup from Jack Nicholson. “We were together that night and ever since.”
The Practice alum also believes that she and her husband have cracked the code on how to have a successful marriage in Hollywood.
“A lot of it is growing up,” she told People. “A lot of it is when you’re ready, and I’ve been so fortunate, I’ve had so many lovely gentleman callers. I have had a blast, and I have just met wonderful men to have time with and to learn with and grow with. It was just the right timing.”
