Troops conducting clearance operations from Bukuyum town in Zamfara State have engaged armed bandits in a fierce gun duel during an ongoing offensive around the Tsilligidi forest axis.
The development was disclosed in a post shared on Friday by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, via his X handle.
Security sources said the operation followed credible intelligence on the movement of armed groups within the forest corridor.
The troops reportedly advanced towards suspected hideouts when the bandits, upon detecting military pressure, attempted to flee through routes linking Kundubu and Gizazz villages.
According to the sources, the fleeing suspects were intercepted by troops, resulting in an intense exchange of fire during which several bandits were reportedly neutralised, while others escaped with possible gunshot wounds into nearby bushes.
The operation is part of sustained military offensives aimed at dismantling criminal enclaves and restoring security in vulnerable communities across Zamfara State.
Security sources added that pursuit and clearance operations are still ongoing in the area as troops continue to track fleeing suspects.
