Watch: Bachelorette’s Trista Sutter, Ryan Sutter Reveal Secret to 23-Year Marriage
Trista Sutter’s son Maxwell Sutter has earned his flowers.
Over two decades after Trista awarded Ryan Sutter her final rose on the first season of The Bachelorette in 2003, their eldest child is officially a high school graduate.
“I was fully prepared for unending tears today, but instead felt such immense joy and pride,” Trista captioned her May 21 carousel of photos from graduation day. “Joy in knowing the love and support that surround him. Pride in the characteristics of humility, faith, courage, strength, confidence, and hard work that have gotten him here.”
In the accompanying photos, Maxwell can be smiling widely alongside his parents, 17-year-old sister Blakesley and his girlfriend in his cap and gown. And indeed, he looks much like his dad’s twin as the pair stand almost eye to eye.
And while the milestone is a bittersweet one for Trista, she’s more than excited for Maxwell to step into this next chapter.
“He may be launching from our nest,” she concluded in her post, “but I believe wholeheartedly that he will soar and fly towards his future with the knowledge that he is seen, supported, and oh so loved.”

After all, Trista and Ryan have long landed on the ultimate game plan when it comes to making their marriage and life at home the best it can be.
For Ryan, it’s “the philosophy of there’s nothing that’s going to break us up,” he told People alongside Trista in March. “We certainly have our moments of disagreement, but there’s never any thought of ‘I’m leaving.’ It’s always like, ‘I’m going to take a break where I’m going to be a little bit more reserved and think about things and take longer walks,’ or whatever.’”
As he put it, “We always know that we’re going to come back together and figure it out. We know the grass isn’t greener on the other side. Your lawn is greenest where you water it.”

Trista echoed his sentiments, emphasizing that not taking “life so seriously” has set them up for a harmonious union.
“We have fun, laugh and joke around a lot. We’re very sarcastic,” she explained. “We also believe in setting yourself up for success, in the value of education and putting in effort and working hard and being grateful for what you have.”
But Trista and Ryan aren’t the only celebrities celebrating their kids graduating from high school and college, read on.
