The George Massey Tunnel will be closed for two nights this weekend to allow for maintenance work, says the B.C. transportation ministry.

The tunnel, which connects Richmond and Delta, will be closed in both directions Friday 10 p.m. until Saturday 4:30 a.m. then again on Saturday 10 p.m. to Sunday 4:30 a.m.

The shutdown is required to allow crews to do essential maintenance.

Emergency vehicles and buses will be allowed to use the tunnel during the closure. Other vehicles will need to take alternative routes, such as the Alex Fraser Bridge.
