Stage 6 of the 2026 Tour de France delivered a finale in the Pyrenees, beginning in Pau and challenging riders with a combined 4,000 meters of elevation gain in route to Gavarnie-Gèdre.
Under warm skies and light rain, the riders pushed through terrain that included climbs of the Col d’Aspin and the Col du Tourmalet, with Tadej Pogačar claiming his second stage victory on the Tour Thursday, July 9.

During the stage, riders scaled the Col du Tourmalet, reaching an altitude of 2,115 meters, the second-highest summit featured in this year’s Tour de France. Only the Col du Galibier, looming at 2,642 meters and set to challenge the cyclists on Day 20, stands taller on the race route.
Pogačar surged ahead on the decisive climb at the Col du Tourmalet, carving out a 30-second advantage over Jonas Vingegaard on the descent, with Pogačar reaching speeds of up to 65 miles per hour on the twisting roads, one of the most dangerous descents of the entire race. Pogačar finished two minutes and 38 seconds ahead of Vingegaard, becoming the first reigning road world champion to conquer the Tourmalet on the Tour.
