The highest-ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee has initiated an inquiry into Donald Trump Jr.’s ties with a Russian billionaire who financed a significant portion of Trump Jr.’s wedding in 2017. Democratic Representative Robert Garcia from California On Monday, Garcia sent two letters to the White House and Trump Jr., requesting documents pertaining to Trump Jr.’s financial connection with oligarch Umar Kremlev. Garcia expressed concerns over the covert bond between the son of the current U.S. President and a core member of Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s inner circle, deeming it a significant threat to national security and public corruption. Garcia informed Trump Jr. that this could potentially be the gravest accusation against him so far. The letter to Trump Jr. sought documents such as Trump Jr.’s correspondence with Kremlev and financial records of all purchases for his wedding funded by foreign individuals. Donald Trump’s son, Trump Jr., has not yet responded to inquiries about Garcia’s investigation. This follows a ProPublica report published on Monday, which uncovered that Kremlev had covertly financed numerous expenses associated with Trump Jr.’s nuptials, totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars. This encompassed leasing a secluded island in the Bahamas for several consecutive evenings.
