And to do this, the Avengers: Infinity War star emphasized that he’s willing to put in the hard work.

As he explained, “I have a desire to use no doubles, to do all of the dancing, to shoot those dances in one shot, how he would have done it.”

It was Holland himself who officially announced the Astaire biopic, which will be directed by Paul King and written by Steven Levenson for Sony Pictures.

Indeed, in 2021, he shared the exciting news that he’d be stepping into the dancing shoes of the late icon, who was known for his roles as an actor and choreographer in Hollywood on such films as The Towering Inferno, Funny Face and Top Hat.

“I am playing Fred Astaire,” he told the Associated Press. “The script came in a week ago. I haven’t read it yet. They haven’t given it to me.”

And Holland will be teaming up with someone not far from home for the upcoming film.

After all, Sony executive Amy Pascal—who oversees the Spider-Man franchise—is a producer on the project. In fact, Pascal was the one to share the news with him when he was taking a bath.

“She FaceTimed me earlier. I was in the bath. And we had a lovely FaceTime,” he recalled to AP, before again confirming, “but I will be playing Fred Astaire.”
