President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a monthly transport support of N70,000 for public service workers across all levels, as the four-day deadline issued by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, to shut down the economy over the fuel price hike and minimum wage dispute ends on Tuesday, October 27.
The resolution was reached after a meeting between the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, and the leadership of the NLC, led by Joe Ajaero, on Tuesday.
According to the Federal Government, the transport support, which is expected to commence on November 5, 2026, will last for six months to cushion the impact of rising living costs.
The government stated, “That transport intervention of seventy thousand naira (N70,000), commencing from November 2026, would be paid across all levels for a period of six months.”
DAILY POST reports that the Federal Government also approved the payment of outstanding peculiar allowance arrears, effective from May 1, 2026, in three equal monthly instalments beginning in November 2026.
Similarly, the Federal Government and the NLC agreed to constitute a negotiation committee that would commence meetings immediately to determine an effective date for implementing a new national minimum wage.
DAILY POST reports that the NLC had given the Federal Government a four-day deadline to reduce fuel prices and review the ₦70,000 monthly minimum wage.
