Watch: Taylor Swift Performs at Academy Museum Gala With Kim Kardashian, Connor Storrie in Attendance
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding guests danced all night long to their favorite songs, but Tim McGraw wasn’t singing any of them.
The country star addressed speculation that he performed at Swift and Kelce’s star-studded wedding at New York City’s Madison Square Garden in July alongside confirmed performers Paul McCartney, Steve Nicks and Avril Lavigne.
“I didn’t perform at her wedding. That was a rumor,” McGraw told Esquire‘s editor-in-chief Michael Sebastian in an interview published Oct. 28. “The internet’s not always correct.”
While the “Pawn Shop Guitar” singer didn’t take the stage at the enchanting occasion, he did confirm he and his wife Faith Hill were one of the 1,000 celebrity guests who witnessed Swift and Kelce’s say “I do.”
“Taylor’s always been close to our family, our girls,” McGraw—who shares daughters McGraw—Gracie, 29, Maggie, 28, and Audrey, 24 with Hill—shared. “We couldn’t be happier for her to find Travis, who’s a cool guy as well.”
Of course, Swifties know all too well that McGraw and Swift’s friendship dates to over 20 years ago.
After all, 2006 was when Swift released her debut single “Tim McGraw,” which kickstarted what would become a monumental music career.
And like many fans, McGraw—who collaborated with Swift on his 2013 track “Highway Don’t Care”—believes Swift is a mastermind.
“She’s a special person,” he said, “and one of the most talented people I’ve ever met.”
“She’s the biggest artist in the world,” he continued, “and the reason for that—there’s a lot of reasons—but I think the core reason for that is she is a genius songwriter.”

According to the “Something Like That” artist, Swift’s songwriting talent is the “biggest thing” that is often “overlooked.”
As he noted, “The way that she writes to connect with her audience is such an incredible thing.”
And ultimately, McGraw noted that he “couldn’t be more proud of” Swift’s success.
