Longtime crime reporter Kim Bolan and Surrey affairs reporter Sobia Moman are up in the category of best news reporting (print/digital) for their coverage of how extortion has upended lives and businesses in B.C.’s South Asian community.

For their December 2025 piece, Bolan and Moman spoke to local residents and business owners about how a two-year uptick in extortion-related shootings and attacks had left them on edge and demanding answers and action from police.

In the category of excellence in investigative and enterprise journalism, columnist Dan Fumano explored how a long-running provincial government program allowed some of B.C.’s wealthiest homeowners to defer their taxes, instead paid on their behalf by the Ministry of Finance.

This year’s winners will be named at a ceremony on Nov. 2, 2026 at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver.
