Three men have been sentenced in connection to an early-morning shooting at a Surrey residence in February.

On Feb. 1, shortly before 4 a.m., officers were patrolling in Surrey’s Crescent Beach neighbourhood when reports came in of shots fired and a small fire outside a residence near Crescent Road and 132 Street.

Three men were arrested a short time later near 28 Avenue and 140 Street. Police said at the time that this was believed to be an extortion-related shooting.

Surrey firefighters put out a small blaze near a fence on the property before it spread toward the house. Investigators confirmed the home, which was occupied, had gunshot damage but there were no reported injuries.

Surrey police say none of the men pleaded guilty to or were sentenced for extortion-related offences. However, the shooting is still believed to be related to extortion crimes.

Taranveer Singh pleaded guilty to reckless discharge of a firearm and received a sentence of five years, less time served, while Dayajeet Singh pleaded guilty to throwing an explosive substance and was handed a sentence of 27 months, less time served.
