The nominees for the 2026 Primetime Emmy Awards were announced on Wednesday. And there weren’t many nods on the list for local productions and talent.

The only nominee from a Hollywood North production to appear in the major award categories was actor Sally Field, nominated for her role in the Vancouver-filmed Netflix feature Remarkably Bright Creatures. The multiple Oscar and Golden Globe-winning star is nominated in the lead actress, limited series, anthology or movie category.

Based on the book by author Shelby Van Pelt, the film, directed by Olivia Newman, was inspired in part by Agnetha, the Giant Pacific octopus housed at the Vancouver Aquarium, which gets some screen time in the film. The movie was also shot in locations around Deep Cove.

The concert film is nominated in five categories, including best variety special (pre-recorded), best directing for a variety special, outstanding picture editing for a variety special, outstanding sound mixing for a variety series or special, and outstanding technical direction and camerawork for a special.

Shot on Dec. 8, 2024, at B.C. Place, the performance marked the end of the 149-show, 21 month global tour by the singer that generated a record-breaking US$2 billion in ticket sales. The film was followed by The End of An Era six-episode docuseries, which offered fans a behind-the-scenes look at Swift’s life on tour.

Another nomination for a shot-in-Canada live action series went to Chase Infiniti in the lead actress, drama, for the Ontario-filmed Hulu series The Testaments. The program is available in Canada on Disney+.

Rick and Morty, an animated series made at Bardel Entertainment in Vancouver, was also nominated in the outstanding animated series category. The Vancouver offices of Wētā FX was also nominated for outstanding special visual effects or a movie for its work on the fifth season of the Netflix hit series Stranger Things, starring Vancouver actor and musician Finn Wolfhard.
