Coming straight out of the Athens, Ga., scene that would later birth R.E.M and others, The B-52s were an immediate hit when the band’s self-titled 1979 debut blew up thanks to singles such as Rock Lobster, Planet Claire and others. Devo hasn’t released new original music since 2010’s Something for Everybody but it is enjoying renewed interest in its high-concept art rock thanks to the documentary Devo, which is streaming on Netflix, and its Energy Dome Frequencies: Songs from the Devo Documentary soundtrack. And the band fronted by singer Mark Mothersbaugh has maintained a steady touring schedule, bringing hits such as Whip It, Freedom of Choice and its singular covers of The Rolling Stones’ Satisfaction and Lee Dorsesy’s Working in a Coal Mine to fans worldwide.
