Texas teen allegedly gave away her newborn to a stranger at a bus stop
SAN ANTONIO (TCN) — An 18-year-old woman has been charged with abandoning and endangering a child after police allege she abandoned her 1-month-old baby.
According to KSAT, Jennifer Benavides was waiting at a San Antonio, Texas, bus stop on Sept. 20 when Karla Ibarra allegedly asked her if she could use her phone. Ibarra, who had her 1-month-old son with her, allegedly said to Benavides, “Well, do you want him? I’m going to give him away. I’m going to give him to somebody.”
The New York Post reportsIbarra then allegedly gave Benavides the baby’s birth certificate, Medicaid card, and Social Security card.
Benavides convinced Ibarra to come with her to a friend’s house, where she fed and changed the infant, KSAT reports. Ibarra allegedly left the home in an Uber and Benavides called the police.
Ibarra allegedly returned later and was arrested, according to KSAT. The baby was placed with relatives.
Ibarra was charged with abandoning and endangering a child with intent to return, according to the Post, and her bail was set at $7,000.
