Texas A&M’s goal under head coach Mike Elko has been clear from the moment he arrived. Stack the roster with top‑tier athletes at every position. The Aggies have made real progress toward that standard in the last two recruiting cycles, but they may have uncovered a true diamond in the rough along the defensive line.
Former Northwestern defensive end Anto Saka fits the athletic mold to perfection. After adding weight since arriving in College Station, he now looks SEC‑ready, pairing a sturdy frame with elite speed off the edge. Even in a limited role last season, Saka generated 30 pressures, underscoring how explosive he can be when turned loose.

It wasn’t just Texas A&M that noticed. Bruce Feldman of The Athletic released his annual Freaks List for 2026, and Saka made one of the biggest jumps of any defensive lineman, climbing from No. 56 to No. 31. Feldman highlighted Saka’s rare combination of size, speed, and body composition:
“…The former high school sprinter, who had 12 sacks and three forced fumbles in the past three seasons combined at Northwestern, showed off his speed in College Station, clocking 21.9 mph on the GPS. Now, at 254 pounds with just 8.2 percent body fat, Saka is very strong…”
Saka wasn’t the only name with Texas A&M ties to crack the top portion of the list. At No. 19, Rice running back D’Andre Hardeman Jr. posted eye‑popping strength and speed numbers, including 34 reps of 225 pounds, a 600‑pound squat, and a 21.3 mph GPS sprint. Hardeman is the son of former Aggie running back Tiki Hardeman, who played in College Station from 1995–1999.
