Watch: Teen Mom Alums Taylor Selfridge, Cory Wharton’s 3-Year-Old Daughter Hospitalized
Tyler Baltierra is detailing his and Catelynn Lowell‘s current reality.
After years of a strained relationship with the adoptive parents of the stars’ biological daughter Carly, Tyler revealed where they stand with the 16-year-old and how they stay in touch with her.
“As far as our relationship goes,” he admitted on the April 27 episode of the Cake For Dinner podcast, “we don’t really have [one].”
“I set up an email for her that me and Cate will write to,” Tyler continued, “and that’s pretty much the only way we’re maintaining any kind of communication.”
As the reality star recalled, he and Catelynn—who placed Carly up for adoption in 2009—created the email address after the teen’s adoptive parents, Brandon Davis and Teresa Davis, closed the adoption in 2023.
“We figured if we set up an email for her, and write to it, and then one day if she ever wants it, we can give her the login and the password,” he explained. “And she can kind of just go through the email herself.”
But it’s in Carly’s hands when it comes to how much she wants to be involved with her birth parents.
“That’s up to her. Me and Cate, we’ve accepted the fact that she might get older and not want anything to do with us,” Tyler explained, noting he and Catelynn’s years on reality TV as something Carly may not be a fan of. “She might not even like us, which is OK. That’s fine. As her birth parent, my duty is to be there to answer the questions she has as an adoptee. I think she’s owed that.”

While Tyler and Catelynn made the difficult decision as teenagers to place Carly up for adoption in the hope of her having a more secure upbringing, he previously admitted that he later came to “regret” the choice.
“We didn’t know we were going to get financially stable,” Tyler told Dr. Drew Pinsky during the May 2025 season finale of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter. “We didn’t know that we were going to have resources to work on our mental health and get better before we brought more kids into the world.”
And although the MTV reality stars have welcomed three children since tying the knot in 2015, other Teen Mom couples have gone on different journeys together. Read on to see where they all stand now…
