    Watch: Hannah Waddingham Says Daughter Kitty Impacted Ted Lasso Character

    Ted Lasso is back in Richmond, but not all the Greyhounds joined him.

    Though Ted Lasso season four sees Jason Sudeikis’ titular character return to London, this time around, he’s hosting AFC Richmond’s new women’s team—meaning many fan-favorites from the Apple TV’s first three seasons won’t take the field during the latest installment. Still, the series made it clear that football is still life for many of them.

    Indeed, Coach Lasso takes a walk down memory lane with a visit to his former team’s locker room—reuniting with his men’s team successor Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) and his beloved “Believe” sign. During the moment in the locker room, eagle-eyed viewers can see jerseys belonging to Dani Rojas (Cristo Fernandez) and Isaac McAdoo (Kola Bokinni) hanging in their stalls cementing their places on the current men’s roster.

    That’s not all, though, as the fate of Phil Dunster’s Jamie Tartt is also revealed—and he said hola to a new league.

    “What are your thoughts on Jamie Tartt leaving Richmond to play at Barcelona this season?” a reporter asks during a pre-season Q&A, prompting Ted to respond with a sentiment that perhaps also extends beyond the show, saying, “Never easy to say goodbye to a player, but I think he’s gonna do bueno.”

    As for Nick Mohammed’s Nate Shelley and Toheeb Jimoh’s Sam Obisanya—among others—what they’re up to three years after season three hasn’t been confirmed. But before fans can issue a yellow card for being left hanging, there’s still a whole season—and possibly more—to find out.

    Although Ted Lasso OGs like Juno Temple (Keeley Jones), Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton) and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins) were among those who suited up for another go-around, the creative team knew it wouldn’t make sense to bring back the whole cast—both schedule-wise and with the story they were trying to tell.

    “Phil was going to be busy,” star and co-creator Brendan Hunt—aka the comedian behind Coach Beard—told Variety in an interview published Aug. 5, “but also, it would have strained credulity a bit further than we wanted to if all the old team were still on Richmond.”

    Plus, he added, “If this team is doing so well, then the best players would be gone. They’d be bought by bigger clubs.”

    With the focus now on the women’s team, actors like Tanya Reynolds, Abbie Hern and Faye Marsay were brought on to complete the roster. But that’s not to say the focus is solely on this new team dynamic as Hunt pointed out how Jamie’s absence may just simplify the “will-they-or-won’t-they” relationship between Roy and Keeley.

    “The two of them have a chemistry together, whether they are being romantic or not,” he noted. “We’ll see if that can get back to anything proper as we go.”
