Watch: Met Gala Rewind: Look Back at Rihanna’s Best Looks!
Rihanna knows how to work, work, work, work, work, work on the red carpet.
Especially when it comes to the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Met Gala, where the “Umbrella” singer has shined bright like a diamond for almost 20 years.
Since making her Met debut in 2007 when she donned a white Georges Chakra gown for the theme “Poiret: King of Fashion,” Rihanna has been known for her jaw-dropping Met Gala fashions, opting for looks that often close out the annual Costume Institute benefit.
The 38-year-old’s penchant for extravagant fashion hit an all-time high at the 2015 eventwhen she leaned into the night’s theme, “China: Through the Looking Glass,” wearing an oversized yellow coat dress by Chinese designer GuoPei.
“I’m so in love with this dress, but the train is insane!” she confessed to Vanity Fair on the red carpet at the time. “I can’t really walk in it without any help—but it’s so worth it. I love this dress so much!”
“It took her two years to make,” Rihanna added of the designer. “I was researching Chinese couture on the Internet and I found it.”
The Grammy winner turned it up another notch in 2021 when she was joined by partner A$AP Rocky. Rihanna walked the famed Met steps in a puffy, black Balenciaga gown for the theme “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” while he wore a patchwork coat by EliRussellLinnetz.

But perhaps her most talked-about Met Gala appearance was her most recent one in 2025, whenshe debuted her baby bump just hours after confirming she and A$AP Rocky—one of the co-chairs of the night—were expecting their third baby together. The couple welcomed daughterRocki in September, who joined brothers RZA, 3, and Riot, 2.
For that evening’s theme, “Tailored for You,” Rihanna opted for a custom wool suit by Marc Jacobs, featuring a menswear-inspired coat, with a feminine bustier and bustle.
