The governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Eric Opah has advised the Abia State government to allow market associations and transport unions to exist independently.
Opah who was speaking to journalists in Umuahia on Saturday, said that it was wrong for a state government to impose leadership or take over the functions of traders or transport unions in the state.
“Government should not be controlling market associations, markets should be on their own. They should be given the freedom to choose their leaders.
“Just imagine that the government is controlling the transport system with government managed parks. The transportation system should be liberalized and made competitive so that cost of transportation will not be high for the citizens,” Opah said.
He also alleged that the local government system is not independent in Abia, as according to him, funds coming to the state were not reflected in the outlook of local government headquarters and the communities.
Opah also dismissed reports that he is in alliance with some governorship candidates.
Speaking on the performance of Governor Alex Otti, Opah faulted the high rating of the governor in the media, claiming that some of the projects flagged off by his administration have been abandoned.
