Watch: See Mariska Hargitay Crash a Wedding Photoshoot While Filming Law & Order: SVU
Stephanie March is ready to hear the “dun-dun” once more.
The Law & Order: Special Victims Unitstar is set to return to the long-running series for episode nine of season 28, NBC confirmed to E! News. She last appeared on the crime show during season 19 in 2018.
March will reprise her role of Alexandra Cabot, an assistant district attorney assigned to the special victims unit, the character she debuted in season two of the show back in 2000 alongside MariskaHargitay and Ice-T.
The 52-year-old departed the show in early season five after her character was seemingly murdered, although it was later revealed she was placed in a federal witness protection program. She reprised the role again in seasons six, 10, 11 and 13, and also starred on the Law & Order spin-off Conviction in 2006.
The Origin actress is the second Law & Order: SVU regular to return to the show for season 28, as Christopher Meloni is reprising his role as Elliot Stabler for the show’s 600th episode on Nov. 12.
Over the years, March has credited SVU with helping spark her passion for philanthropy, noting a 2010 episode in particular—in which her character left New York City to help women and girls who were being sexually exploited in the Democratic Republic of Congo—inspired her work with the Panzi Foundation.

“I felt like my passion really was to advocate for women and girls who are survivors of sexual violence,” March told People in 2024, “and how sexual violence deprives us of our body autonomy and often our legal rights and our right to work.”
“I’m not sure that when I got the job, I intended for this to happen, but once I had the job, I became pretty deliberate about it because the subject matter I found disturbing and compelling,” she added of her time on SVU. “It was just not something I could put away when I came home at night from work.”
