Young RB Leipzig and Germany player Assan Ouédraogo will be sidelined “for the time being” with a shoulder injury that requires surgery, the Bundesliga club said on Tuesday.
Ouédraogo, 20, suffered the injury during Sunday’s 5-0 league win over SV Hamburg.

“Assan has had so much bad luck with injuries over the past years and still managed to fight his way back. It makes it all the harder that he now has to cope with another setback. We know how much work, determination and passion Assan has invested in his comeback,” managing director for sport Marcel Schäfer said.
Ouédraogo had only returned from another shoulder injury last week as a substitute in the Champions League defeat at Como and then started against Hamburg. In all, he has missed more than a year of action since July 2024 with injuries.
The injury makes him unavailable for the first national team squad selected by new coach Jürgen Klopp for four Nations League matches against the Netherlands, Serbia and Greece (twice) between September 24 and October 4.
Ouédraogo won his maiden cap last year against Slovakia and also scored in that World Cup qualifier. He was also part of the World Cup squad as a replacement for injured Lennart Karl.
