Vancouver’s Nui restaurant welcomed Vancouver-shot Shōgun stars Masataka Kubota and Asami Mizukawa recently.

The Main Street Korean-inspired eatery, which was just named a finalist for Air Canada’s Top 10 best new restaurants list, posted a photo of the Shōgun actors after their visit.

“A special evening at Nui. It was such a pleasure welcoming Masataka Kubota and Asami Mizukawa for dinner last night. Thank you both for bringing such warmth to our little space and spending your evening with us,” the restaurant team shared on Instagram. “We’ll be cheering you on in Shōgun Season 2!”

At Nui, co-chef J.J. Hwang serves up a menu of dishes rooted in Korean cuisine. The signature menu item is gomtang ($23), a soup that’s made at Nui with pork meat and aromatics rather than the traditional bone broth. Read our review of Nui, first published in April 2026, HERE.

Shōgun won a record-breaking 18 Emmy Awards for its first season. The upcoming season jumps forward ten years and continues past James Clavell’s original novel and is expected to premiere on FX early to mid-2027.

The visit from the Shōgun stars came just as the Vancouver restaurant was named a finalist for Air Canada’s best new restaurants list. Thirty Canadian restaurants made the finalists list including: Victoria’s Lumache, Alfred’s in Revelstoke and Vancouver restaurants Kavita, Touk and Angela Pastificio. The top 10 list will be announced sometime in November.

The Shōgun stars aren’t the only Hollywood celebrities to be spotted in restaurants around town. Lord of the Rings and Yellowjackets star Elijah Wood spotted at Thank You Pizza in Chinatown and frequent visitor singer/actor Nick Jonas dined earlier this year at Desi Indian Lounge.
