French journalist, Bertrand Latour, has criticised the prospect of Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappé winning the 2026 Ballon d’Or.
Latour described such an outcome as shameful because the France captain didn’t win any trophies during the year.
He stated this while speaking on Canal Football Club on Canal+ on Sunday ahead of the Ballon d’Or ceremony on Monday in London.
Latour said on the programme, “You are all just waiting for one thing, for him [Kylian Mbappé] to win the Ballon d’Or in a year when he hasn’t won anything.
“I am telling you, that would be a shameful Ballon d’Or,” he added.
Mbappé is among the top contenders for the Ballon d’Or, but will face strong competition from Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane and Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal.
