Watch: See Céline Dion’s Graceful Recovery After Falling Onstage During Paris Residency
Like her heart, Céline Dion‘s show will go on.
The Grammy winner made a quick and graceful recovery after falling onstage during her Oct. 7 show at the Plenitude Arena in the Parisian suburb of Nanterre.
In video footage taken by a concertgoer Gary Francq, Dion—clad in a black jumpsuit with gold embellishments—was performing her 1998 song “Dans un autre monde” when she appeared to slip on the hem of her flared pants.
The 58-year-old tumbled to her side, but quickly got back up onto her feet and gave the crowd a thumbs up. She then continued performing, before telling the audience during a brief break in the music, “Don’t worry!”
The show was part of Dion’s 16-show residency in Paris, her first set of concerts since going public with her stiff-person syndrome diagnosis in 2022.
“I had promised myself not to cry,” Dion—mom to René-Charles, 25, and 15-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy with her late husband René Angélil—said during the residency’s first show on Sept. 12, per Variety. “But I’m so happy to see you all. I missed you. I’m going to sing like you without crying.”
After belting out her 1998 track “On ne change pas,” which translates to “We don’t change,” Dion told the crowd, “Here we are. I’m standing on stage in this city that I love so much, thanks to your support and your love.”
“I have to admit, though, that the road was rocky,” she continued. “The journey was longer than expected, with unplanned stops along the way. But I hung in there. A faint ray of light in the distance, deep in the mountains. I believed in it. And here it is. The sun—the sun is here. The sun, right in front of me.”

But the “My Heart Will Go On” singer understands that her battle stiff-person syndrome—a rare, chronic autoimmune neurological disorder that causes muscle stiffness and spasms—is not over. As she told Harper’s Bazaar in August, “Sometimes it’s happy things, sometimes it’s sad, but it’s called life.”
“Instead of questioning life, can you live life?” she added. “So I’m living my life, girl. I’m living the life.”
