Watch: “Shocked” Rosie O’Donnell Shares Glimpse at Weight Loss Transformation
Rosie O’Donnell almost can’t believe she got a facelift.
The comedian shared that she decided to get the procedure done in January of this year—and it certainly was not cheap. As Rosie revealed in a May 25 Substack post, “It cost more money than I have ever paid for a car.”
And that wasn’t her only hesitation about going under the knife, admitting that she used to feel “very strongly about facelifts.”
“Not casually—morally,” Rosie wrote. “I had assigned myself as head of all women who would never – ever.”
“I thought it was a betrayal,” she continued. “Of feminism. Of aging. Of our team of women worldwide.”
However, after the 64-year-old lost 50 pounds, she joked that her face looked like it was “melting with intention.”
“I tried to be evolved about it. And say things like, ‘This is natural. This is earned,’” Rosie admitted. “And then… ‘umm how earned does it have to look?’ There’s a point where acceptance starts to feel like lying.”
But even after finally getting the operation done, Rosie—who is mom to Parker Jaren O’Donnell, 31, Chelsea Belle O’Donnell, 28, Blake Christopher O’Donnell, 26, and Vivienne Rose O’Donnell, 23, with her ex-wife, Kelli Carpenter, as well as Clay O’Donnell, 13, with her late ex-wife MichelleRounds—has found that “no one has noticed.”
“Not one person. Not a friend, not a stranger,” she wrote, “not even people who owe me compliments.”
Not even Clay noticed, despite having previously told their mom they “wouldn’t be able to respect” Rosie if she had a facelift.

But as Rosie explained when she finally came to the decision, “If I’m teaching Clay anything, it can’t be that my body belongs to an idea either. Even a good idea. Even feminism.”
“Because that’s still not freedom,” Rosie continued, “that’s just a different authority telling you what you’re allowed to do with your own face.”
As for why the former talk show host decided to openly discuss her facelift now? She said she never liked secrets and wanted to “use my voice whenever I feel called to.”
“For the girl I was. The woman I am. And all those joining my ranks. As we carry on in act 3,” she concluded. “This is me.”
