AUBURN, Ala. – It didn’t take long for LSU football against Auburn to have a player go down with an injury.
Tight end Roman Mothershed took an unnecessary hit from Jaquez Wilkes on the game’s opening kickoff inside Jordan-Hare Stadium Saturday, Oct. 24. The Auburn player was flagged for unnecessary roughness and the team was hit with a 15-yard penalty.

Mothershed was slow to get up and was helped off the field by teammates before LSU trainers met them on the field. The junior playmaker was guided to the team’s medical tent on the sideline for evaluation.

If Mothershed can’t continue for LSU, it possibly could be harmful for LSU’s spread, tempo attack, especially down near the goal line as Mothershed is a big-bodied target for quarterback Sam Leavitt inside the red zone.
Mothershed has filled star Trey’Dez Green’s role in the offense after he went down with a knee injury during the Ole Miss game last month. He’s caught two touchdown passes in the last three weeks for LSU while piling up 77 receiving yards on five catches.

Green did return from injury for the Auburn game Saturday so it’s unclear how involved Mothershed might would be in LSU’s gameplan.
