Watch: Rita Moreno Reveals Her Hilarious 95th Birthday Plans
Rita Moreno is ready to be butt of the joke on her big day.
While detailing her plans to celebrate her 95th birthday in December, the West Side Story actress shared that she’s going to be roasted by her friends at her party.
“We’re going to have a dinner,” Moreno exclusively told E! News’ Erin Lim Rhodes at the2026 Día De Muertos Gala on Oct. 27, “and I’m sure people will be insulting me all night.”
Indeed, the Oscar winner confirmed she’s “absolutely” going to be roasted by her loved ones. And she’s welcoming the playful jabs with open arms.
“Why not?” Moreno quipped, adding that “of course” they’ll be toasting her as well. “They can do whatever they damn want. It’s just a wonderful way to celebrate. So, I can’t wait.”
And as the One Day at a Time alum gets ready to celebrate her monumental birthday, she’s looking back at the milestones she’s achieved in her career.
After all, Moreno received the Vida y Legado (Life & Legacy) Award at the Día De Muertos event, presented by Lexus, Wells Fargo, Tequila Don Julio, NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises and DNERO.
“I think it’s special,” she said of the award honoring her legendary career and impact in the industry. “It’s special because it’s Hispanic, and that makes me really, ultra proud and ultra
And while the Singin’ in the Rain actress has broken barriers to pave the way for generations of Latin stars to follow in her footsteps, she didn’t have anyone to guide her.
“Who helped me? Nobody,” Moreno admitted, “because if there had been people helping me, I probably would have gotten farther than I did.”
That said, she doesn’t appear to have any regrets about making it on her own.
As the Fast X star put it, “I owe nobody anything.”
“I don’t say that with bitterness,” she emphasized, “but I say it with a sense of attitude, because I deserve it and I earned it.”

In fact, it’s her good attitude that the 94-year-old attributes to her longevity—both in her life and career.
“I call it spreading joy,” Moreno told E! News in March 2024. “If I see someone on the street who has a beautiful jacket on, I don’t mind just stopping and saying, ‘Excuse me, that is a beautiful jacket, you have good taste.’ I found in my life that that makes people very happy.”
