As first reported by 247Sports on Tuesday night, Michigan true freshman quarterback Tommy Carr is set to make the first start of his career against the No. 6 Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday afternoon.
Carr was thrust into the spotlight after being called on to replace starting quarterback Bryce Underwood against Penn State, and the freshman signal-caller fueled Michigan to a 21-18 comeback win.
The Wolverines were in complete disarray on offense — trailing 3-0 at halftime with Underwood at the helm. But that all changed when Carr entered the game and instantly provided a much-needed spark for Michigan.

Carr proceeded to lead three scoring drives in the second half, highlighted by a 12-yard, game-clinching touchdown run late in the game. He completed 5-for-7 passes and compiled 83 total yards and one touchdown.
It became clear Michigan needed a change after Underwood threw two interceptions in a scoreless first half against Penn State, and Carr’s impact was palpable. Now, the freshman quarterback gets his chance to start.
Prior to his appearance against Penn State, Carr only played in one other game this season. In a blowout win over UTEP, Carr completed 2-for-2 passing attempts for 23 yards and one touchdown. He also had two carries for 18 rushing yards.
The 6-foot-4, 195-pound quarterback is the grandson of legendary former Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr, who led the program to the 1997 national championship. Nearly three decades later, his grandson will start for the very first time against the reigning national champions.
