Watch: Pregnant Alex Cooper Slams Rumor She and Husband Matt Kaplan Are “Miserable”
Daddy gang, listen up. Alex Cooper is setting the record straight.
The Call Her Daddy podcast host, who is expecting her first baby with husband Matt Kaplan, addressed rumors surrounding her marriage after people speculated the couple appeared “miserable” at the YouTube TV Upfronts on May 13.
But, according to Cooper, there is a very good explanation for her and Kaplan’s unusual demeanor on the carpet. After all, the 31-year-old hadn’t announced her pregnancy yet and she was struggling to hide her growing baby bump before the event. And on the way there, Cooper told her husband the red carpet game plan.
“I said to Matt in the car, ‘Look at me in the eyes right now. You need to match my energy. OK? We are going business. We are going professional, business professional, not business casual, business professional,'” she recalled on the June 10 episode of Call Her Daddy. “He’s like, ‘OK, babe, sure. Whatever you say.’ I’m like, ‘We’re gonna keep it tight. We’re gonna keep it serious. We’re gonna keep it quick.'”
And while she was “relieved” that she didn’t ultimately spark pregnancy rumors, the Unwell Network founder and Kaplan’s appearance still stirred up speculation.
“The only rumors that actually came from the carpet is just how miserable my husband and I looked,” Cooper said. I said, ‘Babe, that is a win for a win for a win.’ These people, you guys are dissecting Matt and my body language together on the carpet saying, ‘This looks like an arranged marriage. This relationship looks like a business deal.'”
The podcaster—who married Kaplan in 2024—went on to weigh in on how people immediately jumped to conclusions about her relationship following their public outing.
“It is really sad and just insane how crazy this industry is,” she explained. “You read those things, and Matt and I are like, ‘No one in our life, our closest friends, our family is wondering those things.'”
“It is crazy to see the internet be like, ‘Oh my god, they’re on the rocks,'” Cooper continued. “And we’re like, ‘Wait. We are? What’s happening?’ That is an odd part of the job that I don’t enjoy.”
She stressed, “No one needs to worry. Matt and I are great.”
And while the entrepreneur announced her pregnancy news four days after the YouTube event, that wasn’t the original plan.

In fact, Cooper admitted to wanting to “pull a Kylie Jenner,” and not reveal anything until she had given birth—as the Kardashians star did with her first child, Stormi, now 8.
“I just one day wanted to come on and announce like, ‘Oh, I had a baby,'” Cooper said. “But the unfortunate reality is that my job does require me to be seen either on my show or out at public events.”
And her ideal plan to wait until August or September to share her pregnancy news didn’t work out as she’d hoped. When the day of the YouTube event arrived, the outfit she planned to wear didn’t end up fitting.
“I’ve got my Spanx literally hiked up to my nipples,” Cooper recalled. “We’re about to be late. I am sucking in for dear life. I’m trying to make this work as we walk out the door.”
“I started hyperventilating,” she admitted, describing her emotional state on the carpet as a “mental breakdown.”
The stress from the event aside, Cooper fully bared her bump when she revealed her pregnancy just days later.
As she captioned a carousel of Instagram photos May 17, in which she showed off her bump and sweetly posed with Kaplan, “Our family.”
