Watch: Practical Magic 2’s Joey King Addresses Facelift Rumors
Joey King knows her Met Gala 2026 look was practically magic.
But the Practical Magic 2 star set the record straight after her appearance at fashion’s biggest night on May 4 sparked rumors that she’d undergone plastic surgery in preparation for the event.
“I didn’t get a facelift,” King told Owen Thiele during the Sept. 11 episode of his In Your Dreams podcast. “I’m glad we’re talking about this.”
Though the 27-year-old revealed she “didn’t get work done” before walking the Met steps, she did share insight into how she altered her appearance for the big day.
“What I did do, I got a spray tan,” King said. “And then I did a 36-hour fast. No food, nothing but water, which I don’t promote that.”
Indeed, King had just come off a rowdy girls’ weekend that enabled her to change up her wellness regimen.
“What happened was I was at a bachelorette party the weekend before and I was looking swollen and I was drinking a lot,” she explained. “I looked busted. And I was like, ‘I gotta do a reset. I’m going to do a 24-hour fast.'”
King noted that the fast is “good for you to do once a month if you’re healthy enough to do it anyway,” adding, “and then by the time I woke up and ordered lunch the next day, it wound up being like 36 hours and everything.”
On top of the fast, King broke down all her other tips and tricks for getting Met Gala ready.
“I got a lymphatic massage, and then I got a facial the day before the Met,” she shared. “And then on the day of the Met, I had another face lymphatic massage.”

“We were doing everything we could to look amazing on the carpet,” King added. “And guess what? It worked because everybody thought I had plastic surgery, but I didn’t.”
Another event The Act star stunned at recently was the Practical Magic 2 premiere in London Aug. 26, where she cast a spell on fashion lovers everywhere as she donned a completely sheer dress featuring floral details, which she paired with yellow Miu Miu undergarments and matching heels.
And while any appearance beside her costars Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman and Maisie Williams is sure to make for a spellbinding outing, this one in particular stuck with the Uglies star.
As she wrote on Instagram of the premiere, “London you made these witches so very happy.”
