Postmedia News is welcoming more than a dozen emerging journalists to its newsrooms across the country this summer, part of a continuing push to invest in the next generation of talent as Canadian media adapts, innovates and builds new ways to connect with audiences.

“At a time when the media landscape continues to evolve in response to industry changes, we believe it is essential to keep investing in up-and-coming talent,” said Duncan Clark, Postmedia’s chief content officer. “These internships are about giving students and new graduates practical experience inside newsrooms. That means working within real news cycles, learning how strong stories are identified and pursued, and seeing how teams across Postmedia connect to audiences.”

Oksana Shtohryn joins The Vancouver Sun and The Province newsroom this week as a summer intern after graduating from the Langara journalism program in Vancouver.

Oksana was raised in Ukraine and moved to Vancouver in 2023.

Before coming to Canada, she spent three years at Transparency International Ukraine where she covered corruption-related court cases, interviewed prosecutors, judges and detectives, and led a team monitoring court proceedings.

She has a bachelor’s of law from the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and is fluent in English, Ukrainian and Russian.

Interns will work for up to 16 weeks in Vancouver and in other Postmedia newsrooms across Canada, including The National Post, Financial Post, Edmonton Journal, Calgary Herald, Regina Leader-Post, Saskatoon StarPhoenix, Montreal Gazette, Ottawa Citizen, London Free Press, Windsor Star, Fredericton Daily Gleaner and The Halifax Chronicle Herald. Their assignments will include daily news, business, politics, features, community reporting and digital storytelling.

Postmedia is also partnering with Huron University’s nation builder program, a selective fellowship for emerging student leaders focused on Canada’s prosperity and future success. This summer, fellows will join The National Post, reflecting a shared commitment to developing the ideas, ambition and leadership needed to shape the country’s future.
