Pop duo Tegan & Sara use Vancouver as backdrop for new video

Vancouver pop sister duo Tegan and Sara are back with new music.

On Sept. 25, the twin Quin sisters released the video for Our Year, their first new single since 2022’s Crybaby.

The single is a collaboration with fellow Vancouver-based artist Lights and Vancouver producer Felix Cartal.

The video for the single, directed by Vancouver’s Kyle S. Lee, was shot in the city and highlights locations including Kits Beach, H.R. MacMillan Space Centre and the City Centre Motel Hotel.

The artists also up the hometown feeling wearing Vancouver Canadians, Canucks, B.C. Lions and Vancouver Goldeneyes jerseys.

“The four of us are all West Coast-based, and the inspiration for the song came from our messy relationship with this beautiful city we call home, this beautiful part of the world we choose to live in, and this complicated, sometimes deeply frustrating job we all have,” the sisters posted on their website. “But more broadly, Our Year is about the exasperation of watching another year get away from you, mixed with the slightly delusional but very real hope that maybe this year really might be your year.”

Fans will be able to see the four-time Juno award-winning and Grammy nominated Tegan and Sara live when they join Hilary Duff’s Lucky Me Tour for select U.S. dates in November 2027.

In September, Tegan’s debut middle-grade novel Merry Christmess came out. The book came on the heels of Tegan contributing a story to the Marvel Comics pride special Wiccan & Hulking: Raid of Ultron #1, published on May 27.
