Meanwhile, marine police are searching the pond for evidence as detectives examine her final movements. Investigators have yet to establish whether she drowned or died violently. No arrests have been made.

Police are hunting for evidence in a pond surrounded by rice fields after a 45-year-old woman was found naked and dead. Her family fears she was murdered, pointing to clothing and belongings scattered around the scene.
Meanwhile, marine police have been enlisted to search the water for further clues. The woman’s body has been sent for a detailed autopsy in Khon Kaen. However, investigators have yet to establish how she died and have refused to rule out foul play.
The disturbing discovery was made on Tuesday, November 3, near Ban Song village in Mukdahan province. The province lies in northeastern Thailand, along the Mekong River bordering Laos.
Woman found naked in Mukdahan rice field pond as scattered belongings raise serious fears of foul play
The woman, identified in Thai reports as Woranat, 45, lived in Nong Ian subdistrict. Her naked body was found floating face down in a pond near Ban Song, Moo 2, Khamcha-i district. Notably, the condition of her body and the location of her possessions immediately raised suspicions among relatives.
Police Colonel Athit Wanasin, Superintendent of Khamcha-i Police Station, is directing the investigation. On Thursday, November 5, he confirmed that officers could not establish the cause of death.
Consequently, detectives have been ordered to investigate every possibility, including foul play. In parallel, marine police have been called upon to search the pond for additional evidence. Officers are also questioning witnesses and examining the surrounding rice fields.
The family’s suspicions centre on the naked body and several belongings discovered in different locations. Woranat’s bra was found near the water’s edge, alongside her wallet and shoes.
Yet her shoulder bag was hanging from a tree on the opposite side of the pond. The unusual separation of these items has become a central concern for relatives. They are demanding answers about how the woman’s clothing and possessions came to be scattered around the scene.
Brother-in-law describes grim discovery and questions whether woman was attacked beside the pond
Her 72-year-old brother-in-law, Anusan, described the discovery to Thai reporters on Thursday. At approximately 5.30 pm on Tuesday, he was collecting his wife after her work as a village health volunteer.
Suddenly, a villager approached him on a motorcycle with disturbing news. His sister-in-law had been found dead in a nearby pond. Anusan immediately rushed to the location, where he discovered Woranat floating face down without clothing.
The scene left him deeply suspicious. Her bra, wallet and shoes were near the pond, but her shoulder bag was hanging from a distant tree. Furthermore, the woman had been found completely naked. Anusan questioned whether she had entered the water voluntarily. He also raised doubts about how her possessions had ended up in different positions around the pond.
Speaking to journalists, Anusan suggested that another person might have attacked Woranat beside the water. He questioned whether someone had removed her clothing before she entered the pond.
Separately, he raised the possibility that clothing had been thrown into the water. However, police have not established that an assault occurred. Nor have investigators confirmed that anyone removed her clothing or placed her body in the pond.
Family doubts woman entered deep water alone as police examine her final movements before her death
Relatives have also challenged the possibility that Woranat entered the water alone. They described her as small in stature and unlikely to venture into deep water. Moreover, they believed she would have been frightened of swimming in such conditions. The family therefore doubts that she willingly entered the pond and drowned. Nevertheless, investigators have not determined whether the death resulted from an accident or criminal activity.
The woman’s final known movements are another major focus of the inquiry. Villagers reportedly saw Woranat leaving the village at approximately 12.30 pm on Tuesday. She was walking towards the area where her body was subsequently discovered.
However, the available accounts do not establish what happened after that sighting. Police have also not publicly identified anyone who accompanied her towards the rice fields.
Approximately five hours later, Anusan received the news that his sister-in-law had been found dead. By then, villagers had discovered her body floating in the pond. The accounts do not establish the precise time of death.
As a result, detectives are examining the period between her departure from the village and the discovery. Witness interviews and forensic evidence are central to establishing what happened during those hours.
Police order detailed autopsy in Khon Kaen and enlist marine officers to search pond for evidence
The investigation gathered pace after Thai journalists visited the scene on Thursday, November 5. Anusan repeated his concerns about the naked body and the scattered belongings.
In particular, he questioned why the shoulder bag was hanging from a tree across the pond. He also disputed the suggestion that Woranat would willingly enter deep water alone. The family wants police to establish exactly what happened before her body was discovered.
Police Colonel Athit confirmed that investigators could not determine the cause of death. He stressed that officers had not eliminated any possible explanation. In response, detectives were instructed to gather evidence, question witnesses and examine the scene.
Woranat’s body was transferred to Srinagarind Hospital in Khon Kaen province for a detailed forensic examination. At the same time, police coordinated with marine officers to search the pond.
The post-mortem examination is crucial to the inquiry. Forensic doctors must establish whether Woranat drowned or died from another cause. They must also examine the body for evidence relevant to the circumstances of her death.
On another front, investigators are concentrating on the pond and the surrounding rice fields. Marine police have been asked to search the water for possible evidence connected to the death.
Detectives scrutinise scattered possessions and missing clothing as questions over woman’s death deepen
Detectives are also examining the positions of Woranat’s possessions around the scene. So far, no significant recovery from the pond has been publicly confirmed. Police have not explained how the shoulder bag came to be hanging from a tree away from the other belongings.
The location of those possessions remains a central issue. Woranat’s bra was discovered beside the pond, along with her wallet and shoes. In contrast, her shoulder bag was hanging from a tree on the opposite side.
Police sources have not said whether additional clothing was recovered. Anusan has questioned whether someone interfered with the woman’s possessions before her body was discovered. However, investigators have not confirmed that another person was involved.
Police are also examining the timing of the death. The last reported sighting placed Woranat walking towards the pond at approximately 12.30 pm. Her body was discovered later that evening. Yet investigators have not established how long she had been in the water. Forensic findings may clarify the time and cause of death. Additionally, detectives are questioning witnesses about her movements before the discovery.
The family’s account has placed particular attention on the woman’s clothing. Her bra was found near the pond, but she was otherwise naked when discovered. Anusan suggested that clothing might have been thrown into the water.
Accordingly, the police search could establish whether further items remain submerged. Nevertheless, officers have not announced that any additional clothing or other significant evidence has been recovered.
Pond search continues without confirmed breakthrough as autopsy findings and police answers remain pending
The case attracted wider attention following Thai-language reports published on November 5 and 6. Journalists detailed the family’s suspicions and the police decision to search the pond.
Subsequently, English-language coverage confirmed that investigators had not ruled out foul play. However, no official announcement has established that Woranat was murdered. No suspect has been publicly identified, and no arrest has been reported.

As of Sunday, November 8, police had not publicly released the autopsy findings. Nor had investigators announced any significant evidence recovered from the water.
Consequently, the inquiry remains focused on forensic examination, witness interviews and evidence collection. Police Colonel Athit has maintained that officers cannot yet determine whether the death was accidental or involved another cause.
Five days after Woranat’s naked body was discovered, her family remains suspicious of the circumstances. The scattered clothing, separated belongings and deep pond remain at the centre of their concerns. Meanwhile, police are examining the hours between her final reported sighting and the discovery. Marine officers have been tasked with searching the pond amid the rice fields of Khamcha-i. The forensic examination in Khon Kaen must establish how the 45-year-old woman died.
