One person has been detained in a criminal investigation into an apartment fire on August 21st in Graubünden, Switzerland, which claimed the lives of four foreign nationals.
Prosecutors said they had opened a criminal investigation into the deadly blaze in a building housing a restaurant and flats in the village of Thusis.
“The criminal investigation is currently directed at one individual,” police said.
They added that “multiple counts of negligent homicide and multiple counts of negligent bodily injury were being considered” against the suspect.
“The Court of Compulsory Measures ordered the person be placed in pre-trial detention on August 26th,” they said.
Prosecutors added that no further information could yet be provided on the cause of the fire.
They did however provide the first details on the four people who perished.
There were: a 32-year-old Portuguese woman, two Romanian men aged 35 and 44 and a 57- year-old Bulgarian man.
In addition, six people were injured, the statement said.
Graubünden police said in the hours after the fire that the building had been “entirely burned” and that the stairwell had collapsed.
