It was the Pirates’ fourth straight loss and fifth in their last six games. The 12 runs allowed were a season high for Pittsburgh, while the nine-run margin of defeat matched its largest of the year.
In other words, it was the Pirates’ worst loss of the season, especially considering that Paul Skenes started and pitched well, delivering a quality start. However, Pittsburgh’s bullpen promptly surrendered 10 runs in the seventh inning after he finished the sixth, immediately squandering his gem and turning a 2-2 battle into a blowout.
