A pair of National League East division rivals, the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves, kick off the 2026 MLB postseason with an afternoon opener at Truist Park.
The Phillies just squeaked into the playoffs thanks to Zack Wheeler‘s gem in their regular-season finale, taking the final NL wild card spot over the hard-charging Arizona Diamondbacks. But their faltering finish means nothing now that everyone starts from scratch.

Meanwhile, the Braves cruised into the postseason, winning the NL East by six games over the Phils. They were able to set their playoff rotation so that ace Chris Sale (14-9, 2.16 ERA) will be on the mound for Game 1 of the best-of-three series. He’ll be opposed by left-hander Jesus Luzardo (14-5, 2.86 ERA), who was Philadelphia’s best pitcher during the second half of the season, but who just returned from the injured list on Sunday after dealing with shoulder inflammation.
