Former Philadelphia 76ers star Julius Erving has never mentioned LeBron James on his all-time greats list, but he insists that it shouldn’t be seen as disrespect.
In an interview with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, Erving explained why. The one-time league MVP also shared his outlook for the Philadelphia 76ers this upcoming season, especially after seeing the team recruit Jaylen Brown and James to join forces with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
“I usually talk about retired players being part of all-time teams, not current players. So that basically answers that because LeBron’s not retired yet, and so it’s hard to put him in his position until his career is over,” Erving stated.

“As for what’s going to happen in Philly, it’s going to be very exciting for the fans of Philadelphia and for LeBron. That particular team can set some records and win some championships, but they have to do it on the court, not with lip service,” he continued.
Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Derek Fisher recently spoke on LeBron James’ decision to join the Philadelphia 76ers this offseason, calling it a great career move for the 41-year-old forward.
“I like the move on just pure basketball, based on where LeBron is as a veteran player,” Fisher explained. “He gets labelled a lot for being very self-absorbed, while he’s typically made a lot of basketball decisions that are about team success.

“He’s chasing winning, which is a team thing. Yes, it would positively add to his individual legacy to be a part of another team that plays in the NBA Finals, which I think the Sixers have a chance to get to. So I like the move in terms of, at this age and where he is in his journey, there’s no reason for him to have to be the best player on the team. Shouldn’t even try to be the best player on the team,” he continued.
