With the 2026 NBA draft done and over with, now is the time to look at some past drafts and see what the Philadelphia 76ers have done in their history. The Sixers have selected some big-time players in the past who have become an important part of the fabric of the franchise’s history.
This edition focuses on the 2024 NBA draft as the Sixers held the No. 16 pick following a Round 1 elimination by the New York Knicks. There was a lot of debate about what the Sixers should do with the pick, but the front office chose Duke guard Jared McCain to add to the roster.

To begin his rookie season in 2024-25, McCain was phenomenal. He averaged 15.3 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.4 rebounds while shooting 46% from the floor and 38.3% from deep in 23 games. He scored 30-plus points twice and showed off an ability to run the offense or play off the ball. Unfortunately, a torn meniscus cut his rookie season short after just 23 games.
McCain returned and did play 37 games for Philadelphia in his second season, but he was then sent to the Oklahoma City Thunder at the deadline in a peculiar trade. The Sixers decided to move on from the Duke product and he helped the Thunder reach the Western Conference finals and they were one win away from making the finals.
