Bayo Onanuga, spokesman for President Bola Tinubu, has said that presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Mr Peter Obi needs serious counselling, citing what he described as a pattern of gaffes, inconsistencies and incoherence.
Onanuga made the remarks in a post on his X account on Wednesday, following reports that Obi had urged Nigerians in the diaspora not to send money home to their relatives.
“Peter Obi needs some counselling, not ordinary counselling. All those gaffes, inconsistencies, and incoherence are forming a worrisome pattern. I seriously think that he needs help,” Onanuga wrote.
Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election, has remained a prominent opposition figure ahead of the 2027 general election.
The reported comment on diaspora remittances has drawn attention, with Onanuga using the occasion to question Obi’s public statements.
DAILY POST reports that diaspora remittances constitute a source of financial support for many Nigerian households, although the full context of Obi’s reported remarks was not immediately available.
