Watch: Tearful Peta Murgatroyd, Maksim Chmerkovskiy Detail Major Move From Los Angeles to Florida
Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy are waltzing into a new chapter of their lives.
The Dancing With the Stars pros shared that they and their three kids—Shai, 9, Rio, 3, and Milan, 23 months—had moved to Florida after over a decade of living in Los Angeles.
And though the tears were flowing, Murgatroyd, 39, and Chmerkovskiy, 46, were ready for a new experience.
“Leaving behind the place we’d called home for so many years wasn’t easy, but sometimes the biggest leaps lead you exactly where you’re meant to be,” the couple wrote in a joint Instagram post June 29. “The happiness, the slower pace, the sunshine, watching our boys love every second of it… it’s everything we hoped for and more.”
“Worth every box. Every goodbye. Every unknown,” she continued alongside a video of the family dancing together in their new backyard. “No looking back… only looking forward. “
But that’s not to say the choice was an easy one as Murgatroyd shared a followup video of herself and Chmerkovskiy driving away from their Los Angeles home as they wiped away tears.
“Something new is never easy,” she wrote the caption. “There are tears you don’t expect, goodbyes that hit harder than you imagined, and moments where you wonder if you’re making the right decision.”
The dancer added, “But sometimes you have to leave what’s comfortable to find what’s meant for you.”

The duo—who married in 2017—also documented the experience in a YouTube vlog posted June 29, as they gave fans an inside look at the moving process and the trials and tribulations that went with it. Namely, that their son’s bike was stolen during the moving process and that the gas in Murgatroyd’s mother house was turned off instead of the gas in her and Chmerkovskiy’s home.
But ultimately, the duo needed a change as Murgatroyd reflected on the 16 years she’d spent living in Los Angeles.
“It’s been a fun ride, L.A.,” she shared with the camera. “It’s been fun, but we have to move on to new things, new life and new adventures, and make new memories.”

Ellen and her wife Portia de Rossi have since moved to the Cotswolds, deciding to stay put in November 2024 after Donald Trump‘s reelection, the talk show host told to Richard Bacon in a July 2025 conversation at the Everyman theater in Cheltenham.”It’s absolutely beautiful,” she gushed about the English countryside, per the BBC. “We’re just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture—everything you see is charming and it’s just a simpler way of life.”It’s clean,” Ellen continued. “Everything here is just better—the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here. We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life. We love it here. Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks.”
