One of the pedestrians struck by a cyclist in downtown Vancouver last month has died.

Vancouver police say, at about 5:30 p.m. on June 29, a couple visiting from the U.S. was crossing West Cordova Street at Richards Street. As they were walking across, the pair was struck by a cyclist travelling eastbound on Cordova Street.

The 72-year-old man lost consciousness and was transported to Vancouver General Hospital for emergency surgery. The man’s wife suffered minor injuries and recovered.

Police said Wednesday that man died in hospital on Sunday.

The cyclist was not injured and remained at the scene, according to police.

Sgt. Adam Donaldson said in an earlier news release that the couple reportedly had the right of way when a cyclist heading east on Cordova Street struck them.
