Will Campbell was the fourth overall pick in last year’s NFL Draft, but he was inconsistent for the New England Patriots as a rookie.

While Campbell did have some good moments, his low points stood out. He did suffer a knee injury late in the year and played through it in the playoffs. Many critics called for him to change positions, but the team has noted that they are keeping him at left tackle. His quarterback thinks he is out to prove a lot of people wrong this year.
“He’s working his butt off,” Drake Maye said on Wednesday. “I think he’s got a little bit of extra motivation for himself to prove to us and prove to himself he can be one of the best players in this league at his position.”
Maye is no stranger to an up-and-down rookie season. Maye took a huge leap in Year 2, and thinks Campbell has the right attitude to do the same next season.
“Will has got a great mindset. I think he kind of understands the business and what this league is about,” Maye said. “He kind of got a similar experience to me. Obviously, the seasons that we had were different between mine and his first year, but he got the full length of the season, you know, the ups and downs of it. I think he’s got a great attitude.”

The Patriots made a major investment in Campbell by selecting him fourth overall in the NFL Draft. They believe he can be the franchise left tackle, but it’s up to him to prove them right.
