Patrick Mahomes’ knee injury in the game against the LA Chargers cost him an entire offseason. A day after the injury, it was announced that Mahomes would undergo a surgery as he had suffered an ACL and MCL injury in the Week 15 game.
Normally these injuries leave a player out of the game for at least 9 months. But Mahomes’ rehab was quick.

By April, reports came out indicating that Mahomes return could be possible for the Week 1 matchup against the Denver Broncos.
General Manager Brett Veach, who saw the recovery up close said, “This has been a remarkable thing to watch.”
However, all of this started with Mahomes setting targets in mind, with his first one involving being able to walk before his then infant daughter.
Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany welcomed their third child in January 2025. The 30-year-old suffered the horrific knee injury in December.

His daughter was only 11 months when Mahomes injured himself, but his commitment to recovery helped him stay available not just for his family, but also for others in his life.
He wanted to start walking before his daughter not only as part of his recovery, but because he wanted to be an active part of his children’s everyday life.
Now it remains unclear if he started walking before his daughter, but Mahomes seemed to be elated and also pictured standing on Golden’s first birthday, which was celebrated on January 12, 2026.
This offseason was not just all about recovery, he also had to be at some major events that he was a part of.

He attended Travis Kelce’s wedding, followed by his former teammate, JuJu Smith-Schuster’s wedding.
Amid all of this, he never compromised his rehab and spend time on the recovery table to be able to return for the Chiefs.
Throughout the offseason, Mahomes worked hard with Julie Frymyer, the Chiefs’ assistant athletic trainer.
With his mobility decreased and football not an option, the QB spent time watching the FIFA World Cup.
General Manager Veach confirmed that the QB even successfully managed to predict Spain as the winner of the WC.
“He watched so much of the World Cup that he became an expert,” Veach told The Star.

“He knew about as much as anyone else I talked to, other than maybe (owner) Clark (Hunt)”
His work throughout the offseason paid off, as he has managed to complete the recovery and return for the big Week 1 matchup against their divisional rivals.
The Chiefs will be hoping Mahomes manages to stay fit throughout the season, as they will be hoping to get back to the Super Bowl once again.
