Watch: Paris Jackson Explains Why Her Relationship With Dad Michael Jackson Is “No One’s Business”
Michael Jackson’s daughter Paris Jackson thinks her critics can beat it.
Indeed, the “Let Down” singer—who was 11 years old when the King of Pop died in 2009—shared that she no longer feels pressure to tell the world about the connection she had with her dad.
“I’m now learning I can have my own personal relationship and I’m allowed to be private about it,” Paris said on the May 26 episode of the Trying Not to Die podcast. “I’m now like, my relationship is the most beautiful relationship ever.”
The 28-year-old added of her mindset shift, “I’m in a very beautiful spot with my dad and I love that and it’s no one’s business and I don’t have to share that with anybody. And there’s a lot of freedom in that, which is really cool.”
In the past, Paris admitted she felt an expectation to publicly commemorate Michael—also dad to Prince, 29, and Bigi, 24—on his birthday, death day and Father’s Day.
“That has drastically changed in the last few years,” she continued. “I don’t really feel like any of us owe anyone anything.”
Plus, Paris emphasized she didn’t want to “mimic how a fan would express their love” for her dad.

“I’m not going to express my love in a copycat way, copying someone that didn’t know him,” she shared. “Because I did. That was my best friend.”
In recent years, Paris has been slightly more forthcoming when it comes to her relationship with her momDebbie Rowe, who she reconnected with when she was 15 and has since developed a special bond with.
“It’s just cool having her as a friend,” the singer-songwriter said on Red Table Talk in 2021. “It’s cool, getting to know her, seeing how similar we are, getting into what kind of music she really likes. She really likes country and folk, so I sent her some of the stuff I’m working on.”
And now, the mother-daughter duo continue to stay connected. In fact, Paris believes she and her mom are quite similar, writing on Instagram earlier this month, “Happy mothers day to the lady they used for my template during the cloning process.”
