Packers sign 320-pound defensive tackle to the practice squad

The Packers are taking a look at bolstering depth along the defensive line.

According to Bill Huber of Packers on SI, the Packers have signed former Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle Eric Johnson to the practice squad.

Johnson, 6-foot-4 and 320 pounds, has appeared in 51 career games while producing 41 total tackles and two tackles for loss since being chosen by Indianapolis in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

According to PFF, Johnson has generated 10 quarterback pressures, so he could become a meaningful addition to the Packers’ puzzle trying to create pressure on the quarterback in Micah Parsons‘ absence.

Green Bay has been looking to upgrade up front all summer, and Johnson could be the kind of veteran presence who finds his way into defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon’s rotation up front and contributes meaningful snaps, perhaps as early as Sunday against the New York Jets if the 28-year-old gets promoted up to the active roster.
