As part of OneFootball’s collaboration series with Shoot Music we’re interviewing an artist about their love of football.
This week it’s Hull City fan and rhythm guitarist of Manchester indie quartet Rosellas.
When did you start supporting Hull and why?

My Dad is a big Hull City fan, he follows them up and down the country, so I didn’t have a choice really! The first season I really remember was the 2006/07 season, when Dean Windass scored against Cardiff and sent Leeds down.
My first game was a pre-season friendly against Newcastle at the KC; we won 1-0, Bryan Hughes scored. I think a young Andy Carroll was on the bench for Newcastle.
What’s your favourite childhood memory of supporting Hull?
There’s a lot to choose from to be honest! I’ll have to say the 2008 Play Off Final, 1-0 vs Bristol City. Deano scored possibly the greatest goal of all time to send us into the top flight for the first time in the club’s history. It was pure magic. It was probably the best day of my life until earlier this year when Oli McBurnie scored in the 95th minute to send us up again!

I’m lucky enough to have lived through every season we have spent in the top flight…so I know in the context of Hull City fans I’ve led a charmed life.

How impressed have you been with your start to the season?
We’ve been brilliant. We were written off by almost everyone to go down on record low points, so it feels good to silence the critics so quickly. The start we had felt like a fairytale: beating Man Utd and Coventry without conceding, drawing at home to Villa and away at Chelsea etc. Sergej is working absolute wonders.
I’ve been especially impressed with how the likes of Semi Ajayi, Lewie Coyle and Regan Slater have stepped up to the top level. They’ve all been fantastic.
If you are to stay up, which one player needs to have a brilliant season for that to happen?

Either Mo Belloumi or [Konstantinos] Tzolakis.
Belloumi has been brilliant so far this season, he’s really stepped up and showed everyone what he’s about. We’ve only seen his ability in flashes as he’s struggled with injuries during his time at the club, but I’m glad to see him finally getting a run of games together.
Tzolakis as well is a ridiculous talent. He commands his area so well, and his positioning is really good for such a young goalkeeper. I can imagine top 6 clubs will be sniffing around him soon.
On a scale of 1-10, how confident are you that you will stay in the Premier League?

If you’d have asked me before a ball was kicked I’d probably have given a different answer, but seeing how well we’ve coped so far I’m feeling far more optimistic. There’s still a long way to go, but I’d say 6.5 / 10!
‘Suddenly Something’ by Rosellas is out now. Their new EP ‘Across All Skies’ is set for release on 20th November via via First Run Records / Notting Hill Music.
